The Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world and great efforts need to be made to protecting it. Open Europeans Helsinki 2011 - the biggest sailing competition ever organized in Finland - gave us an opportunity to raise money for the benefit of the Baltic Sea.
Together with our partners we set up a Baltic Sea Pavillion - a design-cafe/shop by the sea - built of shipping containers and recycled materials. At the Pavillion, one could enjoy a nice cup of coffee while watching the competition, get information about the Baltic Sea and purchase fancy items.
In addition to Savethec, labels such as SLAM, IVANAhelsinki, Kaipaus and the Guardian of the Baltic Sea were presented at the Pavillion shop. This time, 10 % of the proceeds was donated to Baltic Sea Action Group.

Pidä Saaristo Siistinä is a nationwide environmental organisation founded by Finnish boaters. It brings up issues related to environment and the sea and provides waste collection services for its members in the Finnish archipelago.
SavetheC has been collaborating with Pidä Saaristo Siistinä ry during 2008-2011. Each year, SavetheC has donated a share of revenues to promote the goals of Pidä Saaristo Siistinä.
Luonto-Liitto is a Finnish youth organisation founded in 1943, seeking to promote the interest of natural environmental and its protection among young people. It strives to create a society where nature and biodiversity is highly valued and preserved.
In order to raise awareness of the protection of the Baltic Sea among school children, as well as to encourage sailors to recycle sails, SavetheC started a campaign with both the town of Espoo and Luonto-Liitto as partners.
Espoo contributed by informing local yacht clubs about the possibility of recycling sails and providing drop off sites for used sails. SavetheC, for its part, donated two euros/ square metre of recycled sail. The funds raised during the campaign were directed to provide local school children with special program. Baltic Sea Goodwill Ambassadors from Luonto-Liitto, young people themselves, were sent to discuss matters related to the Baltic Sea with them as well as to remind of the human impact on it.
